San Antonio, Texas

March 9, 1731

The Canary Islands Descendants Association was founded in 1979 by Rosalio P. Negrete.  Members are direct descendants of the Sixteen Original Families from the Canary Islands who answered the call of King Felipe of Spain to immigrate to New Spain to colonize Texas.

The sixteen Canary Islands families arrived at the Presidio San Antonio de Béjar on March 9, 1731 and they founded the Villa de San Fernando now San Antonio, Texas.
